El Mas Nuevo En La "Onda Tejana"
Augustin Garcia Marmolejo, better known as Augie "G", was born in a small town of Staples, Texas to Ponciano and Petra Marmolejo. Staples is located between San Marcos, Lockhart and Seguin, Texas. Augie "G" attended 1st. grade in Staples and when he started the second grade, his family moved to Seguin. Augie "G" didn't know his grand-parents from either side of his parent's family, but Augie had an elderly aunt and uncle, named Lorenzo and Augustina Castillo that lived in Staples who would take Augie when he was growing up to different events. They took Augie to the Spanish movies, and that's when Augie saw the charros; Pedro Infante, Jorge Infante, Antonio Aguliar, and admired their singing. Since Augie was a little boy, Augie "G" knew what he wanted to be, he wanted to be a singer. He was about sixteen years, when he met the Gonzales Brothers who at that time had a popular band called "The Miracles." Augie "G" started performing with the Miracles during the winter months only, because his family would take him during the summer months to go work in the fields. Augie "G" stopped performing with "The Miracles" back then when they became Tierra Tejana.
Augie "G" started his own band, "The Augustin Marmolejo Band", along with Guadalupe Chapa who was Augie's manager and booking agent. Lupe Chapa started a recording company called"Infinito", that's when Augie "G" recorded his very first "45" recording. Augie "G" recorded a total of six "45.s" with Chapa. The Marmolejo Band performed at many clubs and dance halls across Texas and had a large following everywhere they performed. Augie "G" also performed with the group "La Palomita"for a short time and then stopped performing to come to Austin, Texas with his wife and family in 1986 to come start his business, "Augie The Mobile Home Technician."
